Ramanujar belonged to the Acaryas, believers who were trying to systematise Vaishnavism's monotheistic theology. He was an adherent of Vishta-Advaita, a trained non-dualism. He merged Vaishnavism's northern and southern practises and reinforced Vishnu's religious faith and worship. By teaching that the divine includes rather than transcends all attributes, he encouraged the general population towards a devotional expression of Hindu spirituality.
